Default coolant leak/loss

i noticed the other day my coolant level is well below the low mark...what are common places to lose coolant? can coolant be lost due to heat on long trips if the engine oil gets a little low?

Common places for coolant to leak are:
- water pump
- secondary water pump if you have the 2.7
- various hoses
- head gasket
- heater core

Start by filling the coolant up and seeing if it stays up.

If not, place a clean sheet of cardboard or newspaper under your car and letting it sit overnight. See if you see any wet spots. If you do, follow the drip up the engine until you find the source of the leak. Using a white spray powder, such as foot powder, can help you track the drip up to the source.

When you get that far, let us know and we can advise from there.

You'll need to remove the plastic belly panel so the leak does not get dispersed or puddle on the panel.

i should be able to get a good look at things when i do my timing belt in the next couple of weeks. don't even know if its a recent thing or just a slow burn/leak since i haven't added any (since ownership) in 45k miles (140k total now), nor really paid any attention. it took 1 liter total fluid (mixed) to level it back off.
