I've switched wheels/tires and still a vibration in the car - could an axle be the culprit - anyone with actual experience?

Need more info. Vibration all the time? At all speeds? Vibration noticed in the steering wheel?
What car? mileage?

 

2001 A6 Avant Quattro 4.2. Vibration does not change during braking - vibration at most speeds over 30 MPH, seems to stay about the same from there to about 120 MPH, about as fast as I've had it with these tires. Whole car shakes - seat headrests, cupholders, etc.

could be the prop shaft since its a quattro

 

I doubt its an axle, ive only seen one axle go bad in my entire life and it was in the back of a Q7. Chances are you got a bad set of replacement tires and its causing the hellacious vibration. I had the exact same problem on a 4.2 A6 and i replaced the center drive axle and it didn't fix it, i had to eat $1,100 for that one. It turned out to be 3 bad tires, and yes they were brand newmichelin tires.

 

Oh hey quick question i saw you post something about info on roadforce balancing and that you have balanced them before and it cured it for a while then the vibration came back? Are you using aftermarket wheels? If so did you install the centering rings with the wheels, that will cause the vibration you are talking about.

 

spigot rings are the nameand they fit in the center of the wheel to align them if you put bigger wheels on

No, I was asking about another guy who knew about the roadforce, I have no idea what he is talking about. Both of my sets of wheels are A6 OEM - tires are dunlops and the winters are falkens - both nice sets, but man they sure are shaking right now. I have yet another set on the way and we'll see how they work out.
