Couple of questions (trans and lights)
When I use the tiptronic feature of my trans the car automatically shifts from 1st to 2nd when I take off at ~2K rpm. Is that normal? The rpms will also fluctuate when I'm just cruising around 1500-1800 rpm. Once again is that normal and will the filter/fluid change I'm doing this week help with it? I'm not sure if that's the torque converter locking and unlocking or what. Lastly is there a reset for the self leveling light leveling unit? I know how to make the lights reset but it ends up with the lights not being even with each other by a significant amount.

1 - normal
2 - as you suspect. Know what you are doing before you change the fluid in that tranny!
3 - you manually adjust them to be even using the allen head adjusters on the lamps. To kill the self-leveling, pull fuse 10.
Good luck,
Bob

I got a 2002 4.2 and mine does the same thing when I start driving.. around 2k it shifts into the 2nd gear unless I floor it. However If I shift down from 2nd into the first manually (tiptronic) without the kick-down feature it will stay in it until I reach the red line, then it shifts automatically again.

i belive it goes from economy mode or whatever its called to sport...
when my 2000 a6 2.8 was still workng i could drive on first and if i drive slow it would shift early but if u floor it then it goes to redline...
i also found that if u hit the brake hard then gas it will go up to redline regardless of flooring it or not...

#1. as stated it's normal, as for the others whose cars hold 1st until redline, there is a setting in the transmission controller that can be modified to have it shift from 1st to 2nd early, or hold it until redline.
