Default cv boot

got a quick question my front left boot is leaking should i just replace the boot or the whole axle thx.

My guess is that you should replace the boot. Why would you replace the whole axle?

Definitely just the boot. There's been a rash of these failures on the C5 A6 very, very few have had to do anything other than the boot if you move on it in a timely manner.

Rash of failures on pretty much anything with a cv boot. As long as you get no clicking while making tight turns just replace the boot. If you have noise on tight turns you will also need to replace the outer cv joint. In either case you dont need a new shaft.

I am having the same issue. how hard is it to replace the cv boot. I know the part doesnt cost much but the audi dealership in san diego is charging me $350 for each side.

Are any special tools needed to replace cv boots? I'm considering changing my 90CS boots myself and saving lots of $$...
