Anyone replaced the CV boots on a 1999 A6 tdi?
Is this straight forward - can you give me the low down on what is required. Does the CV have to be removed or can the new boot fit over the CV in situ.

I just replaced one on my A6 Avant . Pain in the butt. Unless you have the proper tools to remove the entire Axle from the trans to the wheel. I wish I had just taken mine to an axle shop. It can be done , would have been much easier with a lift. I suggest you just take it somewhere shouldnt cost to much.

 

you dont need special tools to remove the axle but actual shop tools do make it alot easier. My brother managed to pull off the whole right side, replace the cv boot, and put it back on while i made a trip to burger king. i came back and i thought he hadnt started yet

 

If your afraid to take the cv joint off, you may want to look into a speedy boot. There is a slit down the side so it just slips over the cv joint. No nearly as high quality but its an option.
