Docking an iPod or iPod Mini in your 99-01 Audi
First of all, I'd like to thank the overly-pierced, purple-haired kid from Circuit City for this info....
Want to dock an iPod or Mini in your 99-01 Audi? Do the prices of docking hardware frighten you? Check this out:

I just ordered this package for my '01 A6 4.2. If all goes well, I'll have it installed next weekend. FINALLY, iTunes in the car for a descent price!!!!

The install won't look like anything....it's all hidden behind the factory head unit. I will "dock" my iPod Mini in the glove box and control the menu features from the buttons on the head unit. This is a very neat & tidy integration.
To be honest, I'm surprised this topic didn't get a bigger response. The cost is minimal and the functionallity optimal. Even if you have it professionally installed, it's still going to be under $150 for EVERYTHING.
I'll post on this thread after I have mine installed.

I'm looking to do something very similar with my TT for a NANO, except I want to have my ipod accessible in the slot that's right behind my parking break so that I can control using my Ipod...do you think that I could use this system to do that?

Be very mindful that you have extremely limited control of the Ipod using this device. You have to create 6 playlists,
and then you only have control over which playlist to play. The Ipod controls are locked out.
The Blitzsafe adapter keeps control at the Ipod.

I thought I had found the perfect solution: Dension Ice>Link.
Then I found out that my "Symphony" stereo can't display the ID3 tags.
Might as well just get a mini-jack adapter then.
I would like a mini-jack in the armrest between the front seats. Has anyone done this? How did you route the cable?
(I only need the line-in cable, not the one from the sigarette/charger, as charging while playing sometimes creates an annoying high-pitched sound.)

Why wouldn't a $139 Phatbox be preferable? It'll hold 20gb, interfaces seemlessly with the headunit, and mounts in the trunk in place of your CD changer. The only downside to my Phatbox is that it won't show the song info in the head unit or the info display in the instrument cluster.

Hi everyone. My iPod has been docked using the hardware I mentioned in the original post.
The Bose Symphony system does NOT support ID tags, but it DOES allow control of the album and song selection. I am able to scroll from album-to-album and song-to-song by using the stereo controls.
I'm a bit dissapointed that I cannot interface using the iPod, but I have enough control with the stereo controls to keep me happy. Considering the price of this docking unit, it's well worth the money. For crying out loud, it's my iPod, I know who I'm listening to......why do I need to see the name of the artist on the radio?
For those who don't want to spend hundreds on iPod docking, this is the answer. The sound quality is wonderful....and I ain't just whistling dixie.
