Door sensor problem
How does the A6 know the door is open ? is it in the latch assembly as i can find no plunger switch . The reason I ask is I just noticed the car i recently purchased does not inicate when the key is in the ignition when i open the door or give an alarm if the drivers door is open . is this normal ?
more than likely your drivers door latch is bad. It is very common for them to fail as they get older. Changing it takes about 1 hour.

This is a link to a guy who instead of replacing the door latch, he fixed it. I just bought a used one, but his directions were useful non the less.

Time
I was gonna go the fix it route, but then I just decided $75.00 dollars and I would be done with it. If it fails again, I will attempt to fix it myself. It looks rather easy, just time consuming.
