Default Draining fuel tank 02 A6 4.2

Guys, any tips on how any one else has done this? All signs point to pulling the pump. The tank has just under a half tank, so I have to take out at least 5-6 gallons so when I open the pump access I don't get a water fall of gasoline in the back seat.

I am a little reluctant to siphon as the house could damage the float unit. One thought that I have not tried is to siphon off the pump feed line

thanks Ed

After conferring with my Audi mechanic, he said that 1/2 tank or less should not be a problem. And he was right. It took about an hour or so to change the pump assembly, moving very slowly. It wasn't particularly hard, but caution must be exercised as you will be dealing with gasoline and some delicate components in the fuel tank. I ended up paying more for shipping than I should have because Parts Geek did not know where it was shipping from. Turned out to be about 30 miles, but small price to pay.

Good price of $250 for a VDO assembly.
