Default Driver and passenger door latch doesnt catch when shut hard

hi, just bought a c5. 2.7biturbo. 2002. The front doors only latch all the way when shut "softly" as in rolling the window down and pulling tight. I did do a search and found 2 fixes, grease, which didnt work. And adjusting the striker. Which depending on where i put it, made it worse. Someone i was talking to mentioned the doors are 2 peices? And it may be tight in the front? Can someone confirm this and maybe elaborate a bit on this fix. Thanks so much

I have had the same problem for two winters (mostly in the winter). I have lubed the heck out of the lock mechanisms, and while it helps for a while the problem returns. It is intermittent. I have found that holding the door open about 3-4 inches and closing it firmly and holding it shut for a moment (but not slamming it although that is tempting when the dang thing won't latch) usually works. I don't know if the root cause is wear in the latch assembly or due to some rust that has developed on the bottom of the door preventing it from fully shutting. Since the A6 is predominantly a winter driver, I do not know if it would occur in the warmer weather as well.

My MY03 A6 does the same exact thing as well, although with mine it ONLY happens when it is real cold and moist out. Otherwise the doors work perfect. I drive her year-round in New England, so over the course of a year we see air temps from -10 all the way up to over 100 (Fahrenheit). Sometimes I end up having to hold the door closed over (but not latched, as it wont latch) for a few minutes as the interior heats up, then it closes normally. I will have to try ppgoal's suggestion, as some mornings it can be quite annoying (and cold) playing around with the door...
