emergency key
I just got a new Audi A6 2012. It came with a black key, which I believe is an emergency key. The dealer explained that the key has a corresponding case, which can start the engine if the key is put in the case. The case should be in the car and the key should be at a safe place. However, when we looked for the case, we couldn't find it. The dealer was then not sure if the new A6 has that same emergency key.
Can anyone explain to me if that emergency key & case exists for the A6 (2012 model)? If it does, is there a hidden compartment where that case can be found?
Thanks!

I also have a plastic key and reading through my manual I did not see anything about a box I can use with it. Just that it was an emergency key which I take to mean I can enter my car if I would happen to lock the keys inside. Maybe that box is/was for cars newer then mine.

I cannot help with the 2012 (you lucky dog) but my 2003 should have come with a red plastic key for unlocking the door in case the fob failed. Then you would use the regular key to start the car. In theory. I did not get the emergency key when I bought the car back in 2005. I miss the good old days of a regular key that could be cut down at your local hardware store.
