Default Engine light on but no codes

New member looking for some advice for my 1996 A6 Quattro - 72K miles.

So my check engine light came on.

Checked for codes and no codes present.

Pushing the light interior dimmer button goes through some diagnostics and ends with a big OK.

Is this some kind of service interval light?

Do I need a special code reader to reset this. I believe newer models had this function and also some combination of buttons to reset it. Cant seem to find any similar info for my 1996.

Thanks, Joe

Bull crap no codes, you either don't have the correct scan tool or you need to have a pro scan it for you.
Do you know if its really the check engine light and not the SRI?
Do you have an owners manual so you can look up what the light is.

LOL I don't blame Auditech79 for getting frustrated -- Some questions are a bit lame and rediculous... This one comes close.

It is obvious the guy just posted a question without doing any kind of search.

It is a bit like the "How do I change the TB on my xxx Audi?" or "My radio says Safe what does that mean?" or "Should I change the air in my tires every 4,345.7 miles?"

Auditech 79 is one of the most helpful guys in this thread. He knows his stuff and is willing to explain how to fix things.
As he says "Quit your bitchin it's not that difficult!"
