Engine Recommendations?

Engine Recommendations?
I am considering the purchase of a previoulsy owned A6. Was wondering what some of the opionions here are regarding various A6 engines(e.g. 2.7T, 2.8, 3.0 etc). Please reply with any comments or stories you may have regarding any A6 engine that has been available since 2001. Thanks.

RE: Engine Recommendations?
I am now the proud owner of a 2001 A6 2.7T. I just got rid of my 2001 A4 with the same 2.8L engine and it was a great engine, very reliable, but not very fast nor "torquey". I love the 2.7T for many reasons: 1. the engine is very easy to mod to make very fast, 2. the engine is already fast, 3. the engine is also realible if you change the oil every 5K miles and warm up and cool down the turbos. I drove an A4 with the same 3.0L and it was better than the 2.8, but not by much. If I were you, I would look at how the previous owner took care of the 2.7T and then make a decesion. Hope this helps.

Cris, I know you're a noobie, but what you did is officially known as a *HIJACK*. Forgiveable, but etiquite dictates that you should at least announce you're doing it.
To answer your question... If you're using synthetic (which you SHOULD), you can definitely go longer than you may be used to. 10k sounds pretty long to me, but the only real way to tell is to get your oil tested. There are companies that do this and the results will tell you how much YOUR engine has broken down the oil at various mileage points. If you want to play it safe, 5k sounds right. Synth may go 10k, but in a twin turbo engine, I'd play it safe.
To answer the original poster...
I'm a big fan of the 2.7T. I think the answer of what is right for you will depend on what you're looking for. If you want out-the-door performance and the ability to modify it to get even more, the 2.7T can't be beat (especially if you get a manual). The 2.8 (replaced by the 2.0 in 2002) will be fine if you're not looking for lots of performance out of the car. There's also the 4.2 V8 -- check the SEVERAL recent posts asking about this to see discussion of that engine vs. the 2.7T.
