Question Engine smell

Hello,

Quick question for you all. I have been getting a burning smell coming from the engine over the past month or so. It does not smell like oil. It is coming from the passanger side of the engine, and at times, when i pop the hood as soon as i put it in park, there is a faint smoke line coming from that side.

I notice the smell in the first 10 miles of driving after the car sits overnight, and then only when i come to a stop (at a traffic light for example) after that initial ten minutes.

any ideas as to what it could possibly be?

Thanks for the help!!!

Doesn't smell like oil eh? How about burnt dirty oil? Make/Model/Year would help too, but I assume from your sig that it's a 2.7T A6. From what I've read, it's likley the valve cover, or cam seal, or cam adjustor seal (or all of the above) leaking onto the hot exhaust. Mine has oil leaking from at least one of those locations, and I've finally collected all of the needed parts, and courage to tackle it this weekend. This will also include replacing the oil filler cap with a newer vented model, and servicing/cleaning the PCV system. I don't know of anything else that would smell or smoke like you describe, unless you've let the smoke out of some of the electronics, they run on that stuff you know.

All I know is that if my car was smoking for any reason I would take care of it immediately not drive it for a month.
You are asking for it! Especially if it doesn't smell like oil!!

Bring it to a mechanic ASAP. Before something bad happens.
It could have been simple but waiting makes it worse.
