Thumbs down Engine stutters A6-2000, what's wrong?

I had already several visits to a repair shop but nobody seems to know what is wrong. Went today to a diagnostic center but nothing could be found from the computer. When accellerating the car shakes and stutter. It is only noticable when I accellerate gently. When I push it hard you will not notice anything. It seems you can feel the stutter better when you drive about 40-60km/h. One repair shop believed it had to do with the transmission. Could he be right? How could I isolate the problem?

Eddy

ps

I have changed the spark plugs.
I have replaced the air filter
I have cleaned the fuel filter.

Default Some additional information

As I see nobody reacted, it might that it is missing information. My Audi is a A6 2.4L V6 engine, Automatic with tiptronics. No additional mods.

I had a closer look this morning, using only the triptronics, to see if it was gear related. The vibration is the strongest in the second gear. It actually doesn't matter if you accellerate or release the accellerator. You can still feel the stutter. In idle the engine runs fine. Cranking the engine with full trottle is OK. It seems like only when you require a torque the problem occurs.

Can anybody give it a try before I headout for a four digit bill?

Does it bang it's way through gears or do you notice it jumping or lurching in and out of gear while you are stopped?

Default just collected the car from dealership

I waited to response until I received my car back from the dealership. Before they started on this job we did a test drive and the "specialist" concluded it was either the transmission or it was misfire. After two days at the dealership they found that the sparkplugs were wet and believed that the gasket was leaking. So they replaced the gasket and provided me the bill of about 400 USD. Ok to pay, as long as it fixes the problem. When driving away from the dealership it all looked fine and was happy as a child. However after 150km it felt the problem was coming back and YES it was back! Maybe not that heavily as before but definitely it is back!

Could it be transmission or should I give it another try at the stealership?

freakaftr8: To react on your comments- If I drive on shifted mode (tiptronics) you can feel the stuttering very well when slowly accelerating and releasing. It seems, in it second gear, it is most strong. So is it misfiring under load or has it to do with the transmission or something else?

After two garage visits and the dealership I still don’t have the solution.
I have done now about 220.000km on the clock with this car but 80% is long distance driving, so I don't want to believe it has to do with the transmission.

I would say look at the plugs again. The shutter shouldn't be in the trans.
There is the possibility that the issue with the plug is still there and the gasket is not the final solution. Check your plugs again and see

Even though this may not be helpful advice but i noticed you said "cleaned fuel filter". Why not just replace it?

Default bad transmission

The dealership confirmed this time the problems has to do with a bad transmission. He said the transmission oil was black and he found particals inside. He flushed the oil and its behavior is a bit better but not solved.

Nevertheless, I'm still confused about why after the gasket change the car did run well for at least 100km and then it slowly degraded.

I still don't understand that after only 220,000km the transmission is gone. The car look still very good and it is a pitty to dump it now. I will have to look for an used replacement gear box.

Sorry to hear that.. I think im in the same boat here too. Mine sputters at a stop like it's trying to engage and it also slams into 3rd gear too. Dont have a clue as to what kells these tiptronic transmissions. Good luck

Default still look new

Everything of the car looks still new, not one scratch. The dealer told me not to invest in a new tiptronics gear box, it was not worth the value of the car. He also didn't recommend me to get it from the scrape yard due to the electronics which might gives other problems. So what to do then? I cannot sell the car in this state. Should I sell it in parts via ebay or should I just lit it up or drive it off a cliff?

Any suggestions welcome!

Eddy
