Fairly new a6 owner, questions (semi-noob post?)
I got my 02 a6 2.7t tip sline? (17" BBS wheels) and i love it but i have a few questions and i would appreciate it if anyone has the time to answer them
1.) Ive had an audi before and i had two rockford fosgate 12s put in and for the guy to do it he needed a 5 digit number or so for when he disconnects battery and has to put a code in. This certain a6 did not come with the owner manual or the sound system manual which has the code. is it possible for me to use someone elses code or is there a way to do it without entering the number
2.) The car is used, 58k miles and it shows on some parts. My headlamps have built like a yellow film over them like older cars do. This makes the lights not look clear, is this fixable? Is it on the outside or inside?
3.) On the a6, next to the front fog lamps on the bottom there is that black plastic piece that kind of resembles the grill that goes towards the center of the car. This car is missing that black piece on the right side and it is driving me crazy. Is that part even orderable?
4.) Im trying to figure out which would be the best route to get the best sound quality out of my car for the lowest price since funds are limited (I'm 18). I would love a borla catback exhaust, but i dont think i can afford a full 1200 dollar exhaust system. Are their tips out there that can give a nice, not cheap/bumblebee sound? I am also wondering if Diverter Valves will increase the sound of my turbos? I love the twin turbo v6 but the turbos dont make their presence known enough.
5.) I know chips are the best way to go to get the best performance per buck out your car but i can't get the 600 right now. I plan on adding a chip later, probably near or a few years before i graduate from college (2011). Who knows how many miles the car will have then (59k now), is it even worth chipping the car when it has lots of miles? Is the 600 all i need, or do i also need a triptronic chip?
6.) The car is at 59k, so im guessing i need a timing belt replacement. I dont have an audi place around here but one of my buddies dad owns a repair shop and i know a guy up there that has an a6 and works on them, hopefully he can do it. But i would have to order the part, how much is it/where is it? Estimated cost for labor?

Ok answer for #5, I just chipped and all you really need is $600 nothing more. You can get new diverter valves (the black round things under the biturbo plastic piece) or a new Throttle Body Boot, the rubber piece that runs to the Y-pipe (the silver pipe). If you had to chip and change thoes bits you would spend about $780 at the most! And yes its well worth it
Question #2: I'd like to know that as well. My left headlight exhibits the same symptoms...
Question #6: You still have another 10-20K miles before the TB replacement, so relax for another year or so....

1) no clue ... call the dealer and give them ur vin and they can get it
2) there was a thread a couple months ago about headlight cleaning ... i think in the DIY section or on audidiy.com
3)cheap on ebay
4) exhausts for this car are expensive ... i have a remus catback doesnt give much mreo sound unless im wide open at like 4000 rpms ... be careful when ordering mufflers because it is real tricky getting them to fit around the spare tire well in the trunk and gas tank... no BOV on audis ... forge 007 DVs give u the blow off sound with an adjustment u can also make them silent if u wanna pay 175$x2 (priceybut good mod) dont get an exhaust tip it wont do anything and the ones that do have those resonators in them make ur audi sound liek a civic
5) 600 bucks get the giac file ... u need DV and its a good idea to get a drop in k&n filter and a TBB (2 cheap parts that will keep the car healthy and safe) ... i have 70k on mine and i chipped it no problems just dont beat it everyday ... u dont need tip chip ubt itll allow u to manage the power u gain from teh fuel chip better and also may extend the life of the trans ... vast is the ppl to call on that one
6) avalon motor sports ... get the timing belt and water pump kit ... go to an indie shop around 80k and it shoudl be 1000 bucks
good luck

#1. I have the same situation with tha manual. I disconnected my battery a few weeks ago. I thought I had to get tha code as well, but i changed the battery anyway after doing some reading. I changed it and the radio was still working. No Code needed. If you want it you have to go to audi and they can some how retrieve it. I called and they told me they have to call germany or something?
#2. The yellowing on the lights can be removed easily. My friend had the same situation on his passat. There are many products out to get rid of it. We got rid of the yellowing in about 2 hours to get it pretty good. One of us on each light. Might take longer if you do it by yourself.
#3. The peice can probably be ordered. Try ebay.
#4. Joetm is right about the fitting. Im thinking about getting an exhaust as well. 01 2.7t over here.
#6. You wont have to worry about the TB until around 80k.

Before we bought the car we set away around 2k for repairs n tires etc. I would have to get the 600 for a chip because my ma dukes isnt going to pay for my car to have 320hp.
having trouble finding the answer to number 3 on ebay, anyone have any suggestions for what i should search for
Is getting a chip installed as easy as sending your ecu off?

Yes, but if you havea GIAC or APR dealer in town its even easier. The APR chip can be installed through the vag port. It took about 20 mins to delete and re-program the ECU. They didn't even have to open the hood!
chip is the easiest thing to do as a mod and probably the top mod, most bang for the buck
I just had my APR software reloaded yesterday to get the latest version, and it took 20 minutes... like he said^, they don't even open the hood, they rolled the window down to get the cable to your OBD port. On the other end is a laptop and the software download starts... NO more no less...

giac actually takes your ECU and installs a chip on it and then you can buy other programs and manipulate the ecu with a controller they give you ... i think this is why its a little more aggressive programing from waht i hear
