Default A few 2.7t questions..

I've just recently started the hunt for a 2.7t that I can find with a salvage title.. I plan on doing a re-build and depending on the damaged areas, upgrading whats stock.

Just a few questions, for anyone with a spare second..

1 - what year did they start and stop making the 2.7t (in the body style of say, a 99-2000, dont know the body's code)

2 - which is easier to find? auto or manual?

3 - if i get stuck with the auto, will chipping it (APR chip) destroy the tranny? anyone here with automatics and APR chip?

4 - anyone know of anywhere i can find a 6spd 2.7t with a salvage title? just curious..

I'm interested in your quest because I'd like to get into a 2.7T in the future. Drove a 2001 6-speed awhile back and was impressed. Can't say I'm a tiptronic fan after recently replacing the auto in the family 2.8 at 175K. Wonder how they hold up behind 250+HP when they don't do all that well in a 200 horse model. Happy hunting.

Yeah, I was a passenger in one a while back, and I could not believe the pull on the highway in 3rd.. smooth and constant. Seems like a well made car too.

Your right to look for the 6mt model, a lot less to go wrong with a stick..

Besides driving an automatic makes my left foot jealous of the right..

There is a guy in A6 board of the AudiWorld.com site that just did this project. He bought a salvage title A6 2.7T, and rebuilt the front end at a friend's shop in his spare time. He found a hard-to-find 6-speed manual.. he calls it Operation Quasimodo.

His screen name is "absolutcq20v". If you do a search on AudiWorld, you can find a link to his e-mail and ask him some costs, etc.

As far as tip vs. manual, if I had to do it again, I would do the manual. I have a tip now, not too bad. Got a VAG COM code to recode the shift points to a more sporty feel, a bit better, but not a stick. Oh well, I have to think that considering the in-town driving I do, I would probably be hating a stick if I had it in the car anyway.

Best of luck in your hunt!
