First Snow

First Snow
Here in the DC area we got our first snow since I bought my 2001 A6 Avant. I was pretty impressed with its ability to handle the slippery conditions fairly easily. Of course that was one the main reasons I bought the car. At any rate, it was really nice to feel safe and secure while others seemed hesitant at best. The only real annoyance today was when I got stuck on the freeway behind a Porsche Cayenne S doing about 40 mph. It had to have been a woman driver. Luckily I only had to wait about a quarter mile when I took my exit.
The other nice features were the heated seats and the HVAC unit. Once the car got warmed up, it was nice and toasty.

I take for granted driving in snow. Here in MN we get a lot of snow, actually we just had 17" here in Minneapolis this last Saturday. Let me tell you, if it wasn't for snow tires and quattro, I NEVER would have made it my 23 miles home from work. 17" is bad enough, but they called off the plows earlier in the day do to blizzard conditions so there as a good 8" of snow on the roads all the way home.
The pic is not my car but a friends. You get the idea.

Glad I don't live here...although it would be fun in a survivor kinda way. :http://shortarmguy.blogspot.com/2010...d-of-2010.html

Absolutely agree, winter is OOOO weather. I regularly drove across the state of MI, around Ontario, and into IL/WI/MN the last four winters for a AAA hockey kid and never worried about snow. Almost 30k miles a winter. And the only thing that might be better is Blizzaks rather than the Pirelli P6 All Seasons. I am also fond of the rear fog lights since we often have blowing snow and whiteout conditions.

I was out in last weekends MN blizzard for most of the day. Had a vball trny so I parked outside in the morning and came back out around 5 PM. Like the picture above, my A6 was buried under a drift. I had to have help getting it pushed out into the main lot because it was high centered, but still impressive to watch the lockers work.
Driving on the side streets was a blast. Most all other cars/trucks were struggling to go, and go straight, while I was drifting corners in sport mode. Love Quattro.

This is my first winter in my 99' Quattro! I am blown away! I live in the mountains of Wyo and I got rid of my front wheel drive car and got all wheel. I can swerve around stuck and spun out people with ease, and stop at a moments notice it is AMAZING! Having a huge fear of getting into an accident on slick roads, I chose the right car. It is great to feel safe.
