I had posted couple of days ago about the trasmission differential and transfercase fluid required for my tranny. I have been told by a member that they are 75w90 Mobil 1. I was looking at the ZF website, and I found the following note by my 5hp24a transmission oil type.

(1) Fill differential and transfer box with gear oil Burmah SAF-AG4. in addition, Sturaco fm 1992 is needed in the transferbox.

By on the other audi transmission , the ZF literature stated that 75w90/90 can be used.

Does anyone know what is the equivalent to the Burmah fluid and whether i need the sturaco additive?

I have a 2001 A6 4.2L with 5HP24 transmission. Thanks

 

I looked in the bentley manual and I can't find anything other than 75W90 synthetic. The additive they are speaking of may be to keep std gear oil from breaking down. Not sure but I put 75W90 Mobil 1 synthetic in mine. So if you do find anything other please let me know. I haven't had any problems with it Knock on Wood.

 

did you have to change the transfercase fluid?what did you use? do you have the 4.2L engine? I am looking more into it. I will let you know if I find something

 

I changed every fluid in both cars. I have a 4.2 w/ 5hp24 in my A8., 3.0 w/ 5hp19 in my A6. I used 75w90 mobil 1 in them both as per the bentley manual. This is the first I'm hearing of a special fluid but you should post in the A8 section because most A8's have that trans and someone there will know.
