Fuel fill stops at 3/4

Yesterday on a trip, I filled the fuel tank and it only showed 3/4 on the guage. I searched the forum but didn't see anything about this, is this a typical problem?

Has it done this more than once? Once is probably an overly sensitive cut off in the pump handle. More than once, at different gas stations and different brands, would point to a bad sending unit.

Thanks for the reply. On some Jaguars, the tank vent valves stick and the tanks won't fill completely, just hoping the Audis weren't the same.

my a6 does the same thing. Doesn't always do it, but at my usual station it does. Not really sure whats up there, sometimes I wonder because I feel like the tank is more full than the sensor is telling me.

The next time I fill it up, I'm going to watch closer and be sure it's full to the top and then see what the guage shows. I'll report back. Since it's the wife's car, it'll wait til the weekend.
