Default Fuel fill up problem

Okay... so lately when I go to fill up, the car will take like a few litres (about a gallon) and then the nozzle will click, as though I am full. Then I keep going again... and it'll click again. It does this like 7 or 8 times probably by the time I give up... figuring I might actually be full by that point.

I searched and all I came up with was a guy who couldn't fill up -- his would overflow if he tried to fill up after it clicked. Mine will keep filling until it is full... but it'll click several times before then. Rather annoying... as I wanted to fill up today (gas was cheapish) and when I left, I only had 7/8th of a tank.... Argh.

is this only at one pump? i've had that problem with all of my cars at one point or another, i'm pretty sure it was a problem with the pumps though

no... it was at two different pumps -- two different stations entirely.

I dunno... we'll see how it goes I guess. Damned annoying though! I mean if you push the nossle in to hard, it'll stop... it's always done that. But this is uncontrollable. I asked the chick at the station if she'd heard of it... she said its a car problem, not the pumps.

did you try and fill it up slowly and not just pull the handle all the way.. sometimes that works

Maybe just try to put the lock handle on like the 2nd notch in stead of the 3rd one (full bore). It's creating a weird vacuum that could be associated with too much fuel going in.

Hmm, I'll try not filling so fast then.

We dont have the lock thingies on the pumps here... only the full serve stations have them.

Seems it's a not so uncommon thing for the B5's. Some people said it was the fillter tube that needed replaced for whatever reason.

it could be the angle of the filler tube.. splashing fuel back onto the nozzle.. sometimes you just have to adjust the angle your holding the nozzle and the rate your putting it in

i thing if u try the slower fill up at a different angle it may work. something is making the nozzle click.
it doesnt take much to make them click. i think it is the force & amt of air comming back out of the tank as gas goes in.

I dunno, the thing is is that it never used to do it... so I am leaning towards what Jest said. Wonder how difficult that is to replace. [:-]
