It is fine, I dont beleive it will hurt the engine unless it runs below the 87 grade level, but the manual recommends 91+ octane. If I am wrong please someone correct me.

From the manual: The recommended gasoline octane rating for your vehicle is 91 aki / 95 ron. Do not use any fuel with octane ratings lower than 87 aki / 91 ron otherwise expensive engine damage will occur. Your vehicle may also be operated by using unleaded regular gasoline with a minimum octane rating of 87 aki / 91 ron. However, using 87 aki / 91 ron octane fuel will lead to a certain loss of engine power.

What does your owners manual say? It's not worth the 1.50 per tank you are saving to go against what the manufacturers of the car recommend. Thats all I say.

Audi recommends 91, but no lower that 87, im really just wondering if 89 might cause problems after constantly using it for a long period of time, thanks for your input, and I suppose i should just play it safe with 91

To tell you the truth I had a period where I had to run 87. It ran fine for the two months with no problems what so ever.

I definately notice a certain loss of power with 89 octane. It's worth the extra couple of bucks for the better driving experince.
