Gas hog questions ...
Hello I own an 01 Audi A6 2.7T and Ive noticed my gas mileage to be exceptionally low according to the display. Its averaging me at 14mpg with strict city driving. This seems really low to me ... am I crazy or is that about accurate for a car with 51K miles on it? Overall it just seems like this car is a gas hog and honestly Im afraid to drive around too often since prices are so expensive nowadays on gas. Is there anything I can check/replace to maybe fix this? Im decent with cars so anything you guys can think of that may be causing this let me know and I can check it ... I also have a datalogger and am thinking about hooking it up to see how my O2s read ...
Thanks!
Thanks!

RE: Gas hog questions ...
Yeah actually I dont care for AC too much, so I rarely ever turn the environmental controls on. Im now on a little less than half the tank and still about 14.5 mpg. Ive been trying to accelerate slowly for an accurate figure and this doesnt seem to change anything.
Can anyone else post their mpgs according to the digital readout, just so I have a ballpark? Also do you guys think an air filter upgrade to a performance filter would make any difference?

RE: Gas hog questions ...
I just purchased an 01 Audi A6 2.7T with 46k miles. I recently took a highway trip to West Texas and double checked at the fuel pump that I was getting 26.4 mpg. I just divided the miles driven on my trip meter since my last fill up by the # of gallons I put in my car (I'm assuming that the pump stops approximately at the same fill level). My mpg meter in the car was showing on average when I looked at it around 28-33 mpg while on the highway. Of course I did spend a few days in Abilene city driving and perhaps that is why it was at 26 mpg.
That was like my second tank of gas. Now on my 4 tank I checked it again after doing a lot of showing my friends and family the thrust of the twin turbos and a lot of city driving and I calculated that I got around 18mpg. That still isn't bad considering that my 99 Wrangler with 33' tires and a 4 liter Six was doing 13mpg...ouch [:@]
It sounds as though something is wrong with your car and you should probably have it checked out. Could it be as simple as a missing cylinder due to a bad spark plug? Just a guess.
I hope things work out for you.
