With $3.20 a gallon for 93 octane, I gotta think about gas mileage. Mine is a '01 2.7T and the damn thing is giving me 15m/gallon. Is this normal ? I drive normal i.e., no sudden/fast acceleration. Any suggestions to improve gas mileage ? Also, would adding fuel additives help in getting a better gas mileage. If so, any recommendations ??
Thanks in advance.

I'm looking for some help on the same issue. I have a 2000 A6 2.8 and I'm averaging 15.9. One thing that has helped gain me about 1 mpg is keeping the econ button pressed on the AC controls. If you only have the Auto light depressed, the Car continuallyl runs the AC, but if you press econ, then the air conditioning compressor is disengaged and you will have increased fuel economy.

If you find a solution that helps get you up to the touted 24 mpg, please let me know. Any gain will obviously help.

Try some Amsoil PI...works awesome.

Ideal for fuel injected systems. Dissolves and removes fuel system deposits and other contaminants for improved power, overall performance and fuel efficiency in gasoline engines.

15 seems a bit low if you're driving conservatively. I'm getting between 23 and 24, but I have a six-speed. Things to consider...
[ul][*] When was your last tuneup?[*] How often do you run the AC? (consider hitting the Econ or recirc button -- either will boost AC efficiency)[*] Check tire pressure[*] Check your manual -- other fuel efficiency tips there
[/ul]
Bottom line: You do have some control over this.

I found on my 2000 A6 2.7t it got very poor milage if the car was not
warmed up, short drives dont help. also make sure the car is reaching
temp. a bad thermostat can really effect fuel economy.

Bought my 2000 A6 2.7T at around 94,000 miles. Changed the oil, added a fuel system cleaner and I've been averaging 26.5 mpg with a 6 spd with about half of that being highway mileage.

Cruise control does a much better job at regulating the fuel injection, much better than my lead foot.

Double true. I also get near 30 mpg with my 2000 A6 2.7T 6spd some highway, some backroads, and some lights. I take it real easy on warmup, really seems to kill gas before temperature is above 100. Good grief, 15mpg! Maybe the parking break is on.
