Gas Mileage at Idle?

Gas Mileage at Idle?
Ok, so over the past few days, I've noticed that when I'm parked or idling for a minute or so, the mileage range on my car steadily drops at intervals of 5 mpg. I have no clue why that is, but when I begin moving again, the mileage range increases back to where it was before.Any ideas of why this is?
Also, I looked underneath my car the other day before heading home from work and notcied some drip spots, so I inspected it and the liquid on my finger was a clear oil. I have no idea what clear oily liquid would leak from my car, but it's kind of unsettling.

As far as the gas mileage, that is caused by the fact that you are burning fuel, but not going anywhere.... the car uses the current MPG, and amount of fuel in the tank to determine the fuel range. If your car is sitting still, but you are still burning gas, your fuel range will decrease as a product of this.
And as for the clear oil, what part of the car were the drip spots coming from? Best way to tell, is to park the car in an area where there is no spot, and let it sit over night.. then come out in the morning and look for drip spots under the car before you even move it.. that way you can tell a more generalized area of the leak. But im thinking maybe power steering fluid?... I could be wrong on that though..

If you want to see the miles to emptygo very highfill the tank and slowly accelerate to 60 MPH or so and then put the car in neutral and coast.I can get my 200QT show that I can go 700 miles on a tank. If I drive very slowly and coast a lot with little to no throttle I can get it even higher!
When coasting try resetting the current MPG and you can get the thing to show a very high number!

NH_USA, you're crazy, but fun lol.
Thanks cass. I'll try and determine the general area and then report back my findings later on. it's raining here in AZ so today it probably won't happen.
