Default Going to buy my first Audi and I have a few questions

Hey all,
In about 2 months I will finally have enough money to buy my dream car. An A. I've done some searches on here and read a lot of great posts but I still have some questions. Is their somewhere where I can get info on the different models of A6's? I don't know the difference between 2.7t (I know it's a turbo) 3.0 3.2 and 4.2> I know those are the engine sizes but what other differences are there. Which model is the best? Are there certain models I should avoid? I don't plan on modding it that much. Maybe a chip, and the things that go with that. I've also read that they're maintenance hogs. I don't mind shelling out some extra dough for repairs. It comes with the territory. I definitely want a warranty with it. Will I have to get one from a dealer or are their private warranty companies? I know it's a lot of questions but any info is greatly appreciated.
Thanks Guys

There are lots of questions to answer, and lots more to ask to properly get to the bottom of this. First, when you say you can "finally afford and A6" what do you mean? New A6's go anywhere from 40-60k in price. Used can be found as low as $1000 if you are looking at a 93 with 300k on it or something. So please be more specific.

As far as the engines go. The 2.7T is the only turbocharged motor offered on the A6 in America. The other available motors are the 2.8L V6 3.0L V6 3.2L V6 and 4.2L V8. The 2.8 was available from 99-01, the 3.0 from 02-04, the 3.2 from 05 til current, and the 4.2 during all of those years. I think you can knock the 3.2 off of your list as you will not find an A6 3.2 for less than $30k unless it has higher miles and you are lucky.

As far as the models that are best goes, the N/A v6's were always nice, and never give too many problems. The 2.7T requires more attention to keep it in top form, but is a serious performer, and the V8 is definately a trust-worthy monster of an engine. The 4.2 however will be expensive.

Answer my questions and I'll be happy to tell you where to start looking.

WhatI mean by "afford" is I 20k to spend on a used Audi. I would like to spend 15k but would be willing to 20k for the right one. I'm leaning toward the 3.0L or the 4.2L. I'm not sure which one of those if any would be within my budget. I'm not to concerned with the year, as long as it 2000 or later. I am aware of theTB changes for Audi's with 75k and up and that will definitely be a factor in the car I choose. Is there any private warranty places, because if possible I would not like to buy from a dealership. I would like to buy private party from someone with maintenance records. etc.
What I'm mainly looking for is some advice of what to look for/avoid on those certain engine models.

Just as an FYI, I bought at the last high line auction a 2003 A6 3.0L with 46K miles and a couple months of factory warranty left for $15K, it's in great shape there are some scratches on the body but it has just about every option except for a Nav system.

I am partners in an independant repair shop that works on all German cars and my partner (who's the technical one) doesn't like the 2.8L engines. I would stick to the 3.0L for economic reasons (cheaper to run and not as expensive to repair like a timing belt).

Read some of the threads on here about the aftermarket warranty unless you can get one for cheap ($1K) it's RARELY worthwile. I have about 3 customers who have gotten ALL there money out of the warranty and more!

Hope this helps, if you have more questions feel free to ask!
