Head R&R on 2.7T
Hello, I'm new to the A6 world. I just bought a non-runner with bent valves and have yet to actually see the car. It looks good in pictures and the price was right for my budget.
I have worked on a couple of 2.8 engines before and had no trouble replacing valves after similar water pump failures. I only do this for myself, as a hobby more than anything else, so I don't know all of the ins and outs of the various models.
My question is whether or not I can pull a head on the 2.7T with the engine still in the bay, or does the turbo make it impossible to do without extracting the whole engine? I have searched for threads on gasket replacement but came up with nothing, so please help if you know the answer.
I will do my best to reciprocate on the forum by sharing my experiences working on Audis and VWs over the years.
Cheers,
David

Yes, I found a pic showing the engine out for turbo replacement. I was hoping that it was because it easier/cheaper to pull the engine than pull the heads if only the turbos need attention.
I wonder if the heads can come up with turbos still attached??

I would assume you would be able to pull the heads w/ the engine still in the car.
Heres a cut-away of the 2.7T engine

Thank you thank you thank you!
That picture tells all - looks like it is easier to disconnect the exhaust manifold from the turbo model than it is on the non-turbo. That means I can leave the turbos sitting on the exhaust downpipes and remove the heads. Perfect!
Thanks again - this has made an otherwise crappy day a good one. Hopefully I'll have the car by the weekend and will be able to start tearing it apart.
