Default Headlight Recall - headlight warning bell

We recently had our 2001 A6 in for the halogen low beam recall. Our dealer did the recall work. Now when the headlights are on and the key is removed, the warning bell (idiot bell as I call it) doesn't come on. Also, both front and back lighters don't seem to be working anymore. Can anyone tell me what may be wrong and how to fix it. I really would not like to take it back to the dealer. We took it in for the recall and asked them to check the airbag light that would not go off and a noise coming from the hvac system. They couldn't find any problem with the light so they reset it and could not duplicate the hvac sound. They did however find problems with the head gasket, rear axle and rear brakes which they say will cost around $2300.00 to fix. We took it to our local mechanic and he can do the work for about $500.00. We have been gouged by our Audi mechanics in the past and as a result we are souring quickly on Audi and will probably not purchase another even though we really like the car.

Well it sounds like the tech wired it wrong, and its possible he popped the fuses for the cig lighters because you have to remove the entire fuse box and do some re-wiring, so he could have grounded out the fuse on a bolt or something when moving around the fuse box.
I would have the dealer check it out but have the shop forman take a look at it cause it sounds like an apprentice did the work.
