They must be legal in NC. I've been in charlotte since November and have been pulled over twice with no problems on the tinted tail lights.
Hey,
what area of CLT do yuo live in? Can you post a pic of your car in case I spot you?

I can't find anything on the books anymore about them being illegal. Looks like the law may have changed or something. All I can see now mentions "HEADLIGHTS" cannot be smoked or painted or anything however doesn't mention tails.

Looks like there may be hope yet haha.

RE: Hella Smoked Tails
I recently added the Hella smoked tails on my silver A6. Supposedly they are illegal because the are not reflective. But they are ok cause 1- the signal is amber and 2 the brake is red. if they were just amber and red bulbs that would be illegal also. but they arent the insides are actually colored plastic. Also they do come with reflectors to make them legal. But the reflectors are really gay looking. No offense. I bought my set from www.force5auto.com for only $229 and they came next day. They are brand new and he has a few more sets i believe. I also bought smoked side markers off of ebay for like $20 and they fit perfect and match the tails. I am also going to take the headlights apart and smoke the chrome inside with smoke spray.
