Hello all, the drivers side mirror on my a6 is damaged, it is constantly tinted orangish and when its very cold I cant see out of it. I am picking up a replacement tomorrow but the housing does not match my car. Does anyone know of any online instructions on swapping the mirrors/housings? I dont think it should be too difficult but I dont want to risk it with these damn fragile self dimming mirrors. Thanks in adavance for any help.

 

Just change the glass. Pry the old one out as it just snaps in. When you get the old one out you will see that it is only held in, in the center by a ring. This all will make sense when you see it.

 

No disrespect, but are you sure? I mean if theyre auto dimming and heated shouldnt the glass be electronically connected to the car somehow?

 

It is, but the wires are long enough to be disconnected once you have the glass pried from it's mount.

Here is picture, you will see the large black circle (clip) that holds the mirror in place. There are two aligning tabs on the right of the pic and the electrical connector on the left.

On a related note, does anyone have a good source for just the glass/connectors ie not in the housing ?

They are the oem euro blindspot mirrors. Absolutely LOVE them.
