Default Help! Check Engine Light

I have a 2000 A6 4.2, which I bought less than a year ago. The check engine light just went on - steady yellow. I had a weekend trip planned (about 180 miles each way). Am I still safe to go?

The Audi dealership can't get me in for another week and said I should be ok to drive around town. They said it was "up to me" if I wanted to go on my weeekend trip.

What should I do? Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

Default RE: Help! Check Engine Light

Go to this website... VAC COM Locator. See if somebody near you can pull a code -- that will tell you more about what's really going on. They don't call the check engine light an "idiot light" for nothing -- doesn't tell you much. Only way to understand what's happening is to attach a VAC COM device and see what the codes stored in your car's computer tell you.

It's my understanding that some Autozone stores have them and will pull a code for you as well. If you can, it would be good to get this checked before a long trip. Will tell you if what you've got can wait or requires immediate attention.

Good luck.
