Default Help - O2 sensor and Cat problem

Hey everyone,

I've been on this site for months and there's tons of great info. Although I cannot seem to find an answer to my current problem.

I got a CEL code of P1113 of bad O2 sensor. I replaced it and the car ran much better for a couple of days. Then the Cel came back. I switch my MAF and the car ran great for a day. Cel came back. I pulled the o2 sensor and cleaned all the black stuff off of it and put it back in. Car ran better than it ever did. For 2 days. Cel came back.

What do I need to do? I received a code from a dealer saying my passanger cat is bad, but I have never been able to get that code to come back.

Is it possble that the cat is bad and that is causing my issues with my o2 sensor? or did I get a defective o2 sensor and I should try a third?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have been dealig with this for months and would love to get my car running properly again. I miss flying around town.

P1113 is for high internal resistance of the heater coil. This heater coil is designed to get the sensor up to operating temperature faster and should not affect the way your car performs once warmed up.

You need to confirm the code that triggered the CEL - if it is still P1113 you may have a wiring or connector problem. A failed cat would not make the car perform badly, but it would result in a code being stored and of course tailpipe emissions would not be good.

Which O2 sensor did you replace? Before or after the cat?

A couple of things known to cause performance issues without throwing a code are coolant temp sensor and exhaust gas temp sensors. MAF can do the same but you have already dealt with that.

I replaced the passanger pre cat. The one the P1113 code calls for.

How do I go about checking for faulty wiring? Is there anything else that would cause this? Is it possible I have a defective o2?

I replaced the temp coolant sensor, and the Masf, so I guess I'll research the gas temp sensor.

When I bought my car it was already chipped. Don't know the maker for the chip or if it's relavent information, but thought i'd mention it.

I just swapped my driver and passenger side o2 senors, and the code now reads p1131 - so the o2 sensor is bad. I'm going to run this set up for a few days and see if the P1113 code returnns. (leaving me with 2 bad sensors) If it does, then something on the passenger side is ruining them. (maybe bad cat) if it does not, then I know the o2 sensor was bad and that's all that needs fixed.
