The alarm is automatically activated when you lock the car (it may take up to 30 seconds to engage). There is a red indicator light on the top of the driver's door trim that will start flashing when activated.

I found my manual and it said the same thing, but I got robbed through the sunroof and and the alarm did not go off so basically it is useless if someone goes through the sunroof.. it only goes of if somebody opens the doors trunk and windows to my knowledge.. is there a way to set up the factory alarm by touch otherwise I can get robbed any time through the sunroof and the factory alarm is useless.

At least on the C5 A6, they all had interior motion sensors, so if a window was broken, it would detect movement and sound the alarm. There is a bypass button on the drivers side b pillar to disable it. My guess, you have something similar, or someone had the motion sensor disabled by the dealer (if possible).

Lock yourself in the car(using the remote), then get out, does it sound the alarm?
----:YES --> Lock the doors (with the remote) and leave the windows down, what happens if you stick your hand into the car, does the alarm sound?
----------:Yes --> your alarm works fine
----------: No --> see if your the dealer can help enable it (maybe c6's don't have motion sensors)
----:No --> See if the dealer is able to enable your alarm.
