Default 99 a4 enable/disable Alarm

The batteries in my key went a few months ago and was using key to close/open car. I noticed after a while the factory alarm light stoped turning on so I think I might have disabled the alarm by some locking sequence by accident. Now I have new batteries and want to program but alarm no longer arms. Does anyone know the enable alarm process?

Reprogram won't work since alarm is disabled. One of the steps to program key fob is to lock door from outside which will arm alarm then press button. Alarm never arms. Was also thinking it might be valet mode. How does valet mode act?

unless you have a chip you dont have valet mode. and if you do, it doesnt have anything to do with your alarm. what you are supposed to do is have a spare key, put it in the ignition and turn it to on (without starting the car) then take your remote and key, stick that in the door and lock it, then press the lock button. if im remembering that right. but you need a second key.

I tried to reprogram and nothing happens. Its like the alarm is dead. Maybe alarm module went bad. Does this happen to alot of people? Where is the module located? I know there are 2 different models so I need model number. Maybe pick up a used one on e-bay. Will poping another one in work or is there more steps?

you need to figure out what your exact problem is before you go replacing random parts. i would take it to the dealer if you cannot figure it out, they will know the exact reprogram procedure, and they can tell you if something is broken.
