if you could do it all over again----2.7 or 4.2?

Never having driven a 4.2, I don't really have a comparison point. However, I am 99.8% satisfied with my 2.7T -- the way it drives, looks, interior -- even after 100k miles of ownership. I fully intend to keep it for many more years. Would I like to avoid the TB change - sure. Would I like to avoid replacing turbos someday - sure; but I'm at 140k and they seem to be fine. From what I understand gas mileage is about the same highway, with the 2.7T having a slight edge in local driving. I'm not sure if the 4.2 comes with a stick -- if it does NOT, then it's a no-brainer....the 2.7T wins hands down.

I would love the sound of that nice 4.2 V8 but I like the versatility of the 2.7t and how you can tune it. I love the 4.2 styling its beefier lets say but I've had my 2.7t for about a year and a half now and its treated me pretty well. The only thing is I wish I had more money to invest in it though = /

Lets just say if i bought an A6 i would get the 4.2L. In stock form the 4.2L owns the 2.7T. But the 2.7 could be modified beyond what the 4.2L can dish out. I still like the looks of the wide fenders and the handling of the 4.2L better though. Sounds better with a nice exhaust hooked up to it as well.

4.2 all the way. I'm not saying that there are not good 6 cylinders but 8 cylinders for some reason are just better engines. Case in point Chevy V8, Their 6 sucks. My 4.2 is better than my 3.0 and better on fuel. usually 6 cylinders do not save much on fuel because they are engineered to give V8 power case in point 2.7t. If I had to get a 6, I would also go with a 2.7t that is what the Audi mechanics drive. That and I'm guaranty they have a Chevy truck somewhere or a Toyota. I just wish I new that before I bought the 3.0. I sure would like a 4.2 Avant though.

im wondering because i keep hearing that the 2.7 is the most demanding engine they make regarding time, work, maintenance and $$$. i also keep hearing that the cars with the 2.7s have more problems in general (ex control arms, etc). at the same time, i keep hearing that the 4.2 is maintenance free aside from the valve cover gaskets. are these statements accurate?
