Intake Advice....
I have searched this forum, Audi World forum and chatted with lots of Audi owners, mainly the 2.7T because thats what I have and my car has mods.
I currently have a K&N Air Filter and I have had no problems with it to date and from what I hear, the K&N is a love hate relationship. The only thing I have not seen is WHY they do not like the K&N. I know that if the filter is over oiled it can get to and ruin the MAF sensor. It would be nice to hear some CONS of the K&N. Maybe the problems with the K&N lay with operator error (not cleaning correctly, maybe over oiling)!
I have heard good things about leaving the factory air box intact! I happen to agree with it, because it will eliminate the intake from sucking in the hot engine air, but thats my personal opinion. I am changing my K&N filter to the S-FLO from AWE Tuning. It utilizes the factory air box and replaces the factory filter with a pipe and cone ITG Filter. AWE Tuning swears it will add about 10 additional horsepower. They also told me that it will increase the spooling (whistling) sound that the turbos create.
Well, thats my take on it and as always, is open too discussion!

I do not see why not! The S-Flo will allow (from what I have seen and read) more surface area for the air to be taken into the intake. Plus being inside the factory airbox, it will eliminate any hot engine air to be taken in. From the instructions, it looks to be a tight fit but extremely doable!
I think it will give your 4.2 a little bit more umph as well as better breathability. I think from what I have heard with my own ears (not particular with the S-Flo), but with better intakes, they make your car sound a little better. I think they give your car a little bit more of growl, which I think is awesome.
With our cars, I don't think we want something too loud. Who wants to be mistaken for some tuner clown in a Honda! All I want to do is to be able to turn someones head and make them say....."I bet that car is quick!"
Cool or cold air is an engines good friend so why would we want to jeopardize that by putting in an intake that wide open and is only protected by a shield that I believe does virtually nothing!
Once again, this is my opinion from my experiences and readings!

that little heat shield wont do shi!t. your still gonna be sucking in hot engine air, you have to seal off the airbox from the engine bay and let it suck up cold air from the fenderwell and grill intake...
modifying the stock intake is better than getting an after market CAI...

Also, do you have a link to where you are getting yours?
My open airfilter intake certaily made the turbo spool and dv dump sounds more noticeable... other than that maybe a little more power when it's not too hot outside. I have noticed that in the extreme heat on long trips that I encounter a reasonable amount of heat soak. all in all I enjoy it.
