Interferenc engine?
I asked this in another thread, don't know if anyone will follow up on that one.
97 A6 Q, 2.8 engine "purred" to a stop, no slapping sound that I would expect if belt broke or jumped and cams out of time.
Belt is apparently bad, according to mech, but not broken, mebbe lost teeth. They haven't pulled the cover to really see.
Other post SEEMS to say it is not interference. Rather not have to do head and valve job.
Does this actually sound like a cam problem, or electrical? Belt will be replaced, regardless. Car has 109,000, probably the original belt.
Lots of hands on with 5 cyl engines, 79 to 90 5000's, NONE with this 2 week old V6, and I can't do my own work anymore.
OBDII throws just P1106, can't pull anything else, SnapOn guy who sold them the code reader says they didn't buy one or the other, Import or VAG software, think it was VAG. Told my mech to take it to someone who COULD read it, charge the guy like he did it.
I said that's a hell of a thing to tell a mech in front of the customer. He said the customer will never know. I said "I am the customer. This is my car." Face got beet red.
Innyhoo, I got a problem. Change the belt, OK. Water pump and idlers, too? How I got into italics, I don't know, saw the button above, didn't click it and italicized. Clicked again, gone. Sorry. Emphasis wasn't intended.
Cheers,
george

Yes the 2.8 is interference. If you're at low RPM when the belt jumps a tooth or snaps sometimes it won't ruin the valves...maybe you got lucky
As for the code, P1106 is a O2 Sensor Voltage too Low problem; that shouldn't kill your motor. And yes, do the water pump and tensioner along with the belt. Good luck.

P1106 = heated O2 sensor 1, bank 2 - low voltage/air leak possible causes are intake/exhaust leak, fuel pressure/pump, short to ground, O2 sensor,
as your car stopped abruptly this code would normally be stored because the fuel pump will have shut down hence the fault code so it needs to be cleared and hopefully you might be lucky on the timing belt from the way you say it
