Default Interior light question

I have the switch set for the light come on when I open the door. But it doesn't work. It happened two or three times that the interior lights came on when I opened the door.
What can be possibly wrong?

The switch on the door could be the problem. Check to see if that's getting stuck or if it's broken. If the light doesn't turn on period, check fuses and bulbs.

Do the bulbs work when you turn them to the always on position? Or do they all not work at all?

It was quite a while since I was here last time.
To answer your q, yes the light works perfectly if I turn it on manually with the switch overhead as does everything else when I open the door i.e. "door ajar" light on the dashboard, red lights on the edge of the door, the light in the footwell, everything comes on and off as I'm opening and closing the door but that damn light up on the ceiling which works only when I turn it on with the switch on the ceiling.
Does the interior lamp use different (dedicated) switch?

Your problem sounds even more mysterios than mine.

When opening the passenger door, no lights come on, it doens't pick up the fact the door is open. It's as if the door isn't there.

Footwell light, puddle light, door handle light, and interior lights, nothing comes on. Bulbs are ok, and so are the fuses.

Any ideas?

I thought that too, but I can't find the door switch in any of my diagrams in my Bentley's manual. Where is it? Do I need to remove the whole door panel to find it?

As I found in other forums, it's supposed to be inside the door handle. They say you'll have to change the whole mechanism. Some say it's over $500, some found it for $150 or so.

I have absolutely no idea what your talking about still. You say that the lights on the ceiling don't work when your inside the car, but they work when you open the door and use the switch manually? So whats the problem?

LOL how funny!
No. What I'm saying quite the oposite from what you understand. Obviously I'm not explaining myself good enough. That's typical. Have a patience with me please andlet me try again then.
The ceiling light is supposed tocome onwhen you open the door right? Well it won't. But everything else what is supposed to come on actually does come on. (all the other little lights and on the panel it will show which door is open) And everything also comes off when I shut the door. With only one exception. The ceiling light. I have the switch in the middle position. If I push the right half of the button, the ceiling light will come on and it will stay on untill I switch it back off putting it in the middle position or all the way to the left.
In a nutshellthe problem is that the ceiling light won't come on when I open the door.
Whether I am inside the car or outside has absolutely nothing to do with it. (I think)
