Default Intrument Panel/Cluster - Questions

Hello All

I have a 2000 A6 2.8 and need to replace the cluster. The dealer wants about $800 just for the part. From what I can tell I don't have the immobilizer since I don't have the key/car icon.

Where can I buy one online? I've already taken it out and put it back in so that parts easy but I don't have what's needed to reset the mileage. Dealer said they'd dofor around$100.

Would appreciate any comments and recommendations.

Thanks

You can't really do this job yourself, if you have a VAG COM you can code the cluster yourself to what the old cluster coding is, but for the odometer we have to hook up the VAG tool to the internet and request authorization via access code just to burn in the mileage into the cluster, and it can only be done once. In other words let the dealer do it for you.

I purchased the cluster for 95 A6 from ebay for 60$, installed and coded it with VagCOM. 30 minutes to get the old cluster and install a new one.

You are right - you have to be care with immobilizer which could be installed into the cluster.
