Default Non-dealers originated key

Has anybody programmed the immobiliser at a dealership for a non-dealers purchased key?
(Could be from Internet-Ebay or other sources purchased-less expensive)

The parts guy at my local dealership stated that there are cases of damaged ECU due to non- originality of the key... huge repair costs?!?
It's logical to expect that statement due to reasons of selling expensive items... but there is so much at stake if there is a truth in his statement.

Any pieces of info?

depends on what they mean? does the key have a chip for the immobiliser ( does it have an immobiliser ) is the chip blank in the key? it should be and can be programmed because it can take 4 keys or are you talking the remote buttons on a key fob to unlock the doors which has nothing to do with the immobiliser ( if fitted )

A6 with immobiliser!
(the non-programmed key, cut, turns the engine but it shuts down in a second)

All keys have the immobiliser chip (even the plastic key),
The valet (walet) key has no remore control chip, has only the immobilizer chip.
What is the way to figure out if the chip is blank or not?

How big can the repair bill be?
New ECU $500.
Installation 30 minutes if drunken monkeys do it.

I lost my key a few months ago and bought one from www.keylessride.com. I don't have the immobilizer in my car but the FOB works well. I'd trust them over an eBay key.

As per my understanding there are many ECU or ECM – modules in the car. One of them is the Immobiliser. Have you replaced any ECU? Do you have a source for replacement electronics?
