Just bought an A6...service light is on. Help.
The (o) symbol means that it is time for new brake pads.
The C6 does use synthetic oil. While the car is set up for 5,000 mile service reminders, the free maintenance only covers 10,000 mile intervals. I think AOA is just cheaping out on the oil changes. Since I bought my 05 4 years ago I have stuck with 5,000 mile synthetic oil changes at the dealer. I am sure that most of the cars purchased off lease had only the 10,000 mile changes.
i would never wait 10,000 miles for an oil change, i went 6k with full synthetic with my a4 and that was the max.. 5 k oil changes for me!!.. although the previous owner of my car said the 4.2 oil changes need to be done every 6 months? wtf
Well the A4 is a turbo charged engine, you should change the oil more often, 6000 to 7000 on a turbo charge engine is about right. If your car is a non turbo using dino oil, then 4K to 5K oil change is fine. The C6 being non turbo can go well beyond 10K miles on sythetic, its the filter that needs to be replace at 10K. Europeans have been doing 10K+ miles oil changes for years. I remember someone in Audi world who did a oil analysis of syntheic oil in a C6 at 10K miles and it was fine. Sometimes its better to be safe than sorry, but 5000 mile sythetic oil chnage is a waste of perfectly good oil.
Mine just said BRAKE from what I recall. The car's done and the dealer said a cap for the brake fluid reservoir was missing, so I'm assuming that's why the light was on. All the service has been complete, gonna' pick it up at 5:30.
Getting a new keyfob too. =)
And, the handle to open my console's storage compartment in the middle broke off, so I'm getting that replaced next week too. Feels good knowing I'll be driving a car that's in tip-top shape (knock on wood).
I am absolutely in love with my A6 4.2, as is my pop. I think he may be even more enamored than me. Coming from a fully loaded Infiniti FX35 we thought that car had a ton of technology...the Audi outdoes it by far. Only thing missing from the Audi is a back-up cam, though the Parktronic does a good job on its own, and from what I gather installing a back-up camera should be a piece of cake for this car since it's already got a screen.

I don't think so. Audi also designed the service reminder for 5,000 mile oil changes so I guess they think it is about right. In addition, since I paid $60K in cash for the car a $100 oil change is not really a big deal.
