1998 A6, non quatro, 30v. 2.8. I started the car and heard an electrical pop. The headlights did not light up and the blower motor did not work. Blinkers not working. Running lights are working. Hazards work. The climate control seems to work fine. I stopped and the key would not come out. It turns all the way back to the off position. The shift button pops in and out and locks. I hit on the top of the shift **** as that is listed as a problem, but key would not come out.
Dash lights working, radio working. In the key in the off position the headlights work, but when I start the car they turn off.
About two months ago I had to splice the wires together that attach to the blower resistor motor. Any ideas what this could causing this problem.

 

Update. I took car to dealer. The mechanical and electrical key ignition parts were bad. Had both replaced and car is running fine. Note that the core had to be made to fit my existing key so that took 3 days to come.
