Let's hear about it! How many miles on your A6?
I have a 1997 A6 Quattro wagon with 221,000
I am debating replacing the radiator as I write this. Was riding fine until...
I am going to miss her but unsure if it is worth the $700 expense to fix the hole in rad.

I had the same delema with my 2000 A6 and dediced to replace the car with a 2001 but my 2000 had 330,000 miles on it and it was still running strong, so it sounds like for $700 - you might buy another 100,000 miles - assuming everything else is in good shape.
I have a 96 running fine with 228K. But check engine light for sensors, can drive you batty. Dealer finally got that one resolved after two attempts.
Then my brakes are worn light popped on. Knew it wasn't the brakes, so where is the problem? Finally found corrosion in the connector that hadn't given me a challenge before - that took a good two hours for me to find.
Anyhow, having owned and driven a lot of cars to very high mileages, know that it takes just plain old determination to not give up on these cars. I think if I paid a couple of thousand for the car, it would be a lot easier to put some money into it, than to have paid a lot of money over the past 19 years to stay on top of stuff.
On the other hand, could be like a friend of mine - once a car reaches 60K, it's an old car, so why would he spend money on it? He used to buy used tires one at a time because it was an old car (and it might just quit on him). He had 7 different CEL codes on his Camry last time I cleared them. I asked him why he didn't get it fixed and he said because it was an old car (and unspoken - because it still ran). His Mercedes is in atrocious shape, and is killing him cost-wise because he doesn't understand why when he paid so much for the car that it needs so much maintenance. (He seems to prefer total failure over maintenance). Now he wants to look at a BMW X3, because the "Benz" is too needy.
163,578 and still running strong. I was fortunate to come across this A6 with a detailed and extensive service record. All scheduled maintenance performed at or before intervals. What a great ride!
Just sold my 99 Audi A6 with 199,000 miles. Ran strong with only a few minor issues. Only major repair is had to replace the steering rack at around 180,000 miles.
Missed my Audi so much I had to buy another. Now have a 2000 Audi A6 Quattro with 128,000 miles - abs light is on and I don't think the aux fan is working. But rides smooth, runs strong and shifts nice. Still smells new/like leather.

Just treated myself to new shocks, front control arms and tie rod ends.
Certainly not painless, but love the ride. On Friday, got out of a new Impala rental with 13k and into mine. What a treat. Like a well fitting glove.
