Let's hear about it! How many miles on your A6?
That 2.7 is just rather thirsty, ain't it?
I've got a 2000 2.8 Avant with 262 000 Km (approx 164K miles) on the clock and it runs pretty well. The engine actually sound better than the similar engine in my '98 A4 (both Tiptronics) and with slightly less mileage.
I plan to sell the A4 soon and trust that the A6 will continue for many more happy kilometers/miles!
I must agree about the cost and even quality of electronics; not pleased with that. And don't replace with after-market stuff; you're wasting your money! I replaced a lambda Sensor (oxygen) with after-market parts, one on each car and just couldn't get them to work.... I've since had a Unichip installed on the A6 and had these sensors programmed right "out of the equation" - much better now!

2000 2.8l Quattro with 172k on the clock in the process of doing the TB/WP right now. The repair is not to difficult save some stripped out bolt heads but is very time consuming. The previous owner did the last TB at 140k miles but he must have got substandard parts because I noticed a large chunk out of the back side of the belt. Also when he had the shop change the belt they did not do the WP or thermostat and that what failed. Guess its good that it did because I don't think the belt would have lasted much longer.
There are companies that rebuild ABS modules?? Why cuz they are 1200$. Its a design flaw and Audi should pay one time each one that goes back. Absolute Joke. This guy has a 99 with a bad one mine is an 05. Probably 7 or 8 years of bad ones. Are u kidding me. German Engineering. Lol German highway robbery. Ill buy Japanese from now on thanks. Good luck all
My 1999 A6 now has 177000 miles on it. I first used Total Quartz 9000 in a more expensive Mercedes, but then some spilled on the floor and I noticed how slick it was. My Audi was leaking more and more from the valve covers and cam seals. I even bought the valve cover seal kit from Blauparts. After putting this oil in it, the leaks nearly stopped. After 10000 miles it starts leaking again but slows way down after an oil change. I still haven't put the seal kit on it.
The most impressive part is this: my daughter bumped the oil pan on a dirt road and cracked it. She then drove 25 miles while it was leaking. The oil pressure light came on (basically all the oil had drained out by then) so she drove another 18 miles home. I figured it was toast, but I JB welded the pan and filled it with cheap oil. It STARTED right up and has been running another 2000 miles since. I changed the oil back to Total. Friday she called saying that the heater wasn't working. I asked if the coolant light was on, Yes... She drove it 2 miles to the nearest store and tried to fill it. It was so hot that the water boiled and steamed out when she tried to pour it in. Later that night I filled it with distilled water and drove it home. It has been running since.

I just retired my 2007 A6 with 206,300 on the odo. I put 188K miles on that thing since I bought it in early 2008.
Just swapped it out for a 2012 A6 a couple days back. It was quite a machine. I took care of it, and it took care of me.

The '03 Allroad 2.7T is my 4th Audi and I bought it used in late 2009 with 88K. Immediately had to get Torque Converter fixed (but luckily not on my nickle). Have had to do many things over the past 6 years to keep it on the road:
2 Timing Belts - at 110K and then at 180K when I was fixing the
Cooling system - replaced fans, water pumps, thermostat all due to the
Radiator - at 180K which was the source of my cooling issues
Suspension (control arms, front CVs, front air shocks and compressor)
Exhaust - flex pipes
Probably other things too - just can't recall
Still have a few issues to address:
Evap leak - heard that it is a bitch to get to gas tank to replace the hose.
Valve cover leaking a little oil
Driver Door latch and sensor - small nuisance when turning lights on - buzzer for 60 seconds
Rear window regulators
But, today its at 210500 and it still looks and runs great. Gets 18-19 MPG.
And I am expecting to get at least another 100K out of it because I hate car payments.
So, I just bought a used '05 A4 1.8T Quattro for my son's 1st car. They are great in the snow and seem to run forever.
