Locked up Engine! Help!
I wish I wasn't starting this topic but unfortunately the engine in my 02 A6 locked up this week. I recently had a used 3.0 quattro engine with 94k miles on it installed in my car. The other day I was a mile away from my house and the car was acting weird and making a loud knocking noise from the engine so I pulled over and had the car towed to my mechanic. He said that he thinks the oil pump went out and that is what caused it to lock up, but he didnt look into it that hard.
I bought the engine from a well respected ebay seller. They were selling it as "running in good condition" When I got the engine it did look good but I had to buy a few replacement parts that I was not aware of. When I first got it installed it ran smooth, sounded good and seemed to have no issues. A week of driving it and probably 200 miles and it locked up.
Now I am going through my options.
Is there any way I can salvage my locked up engine? Replace a part or something like that?
The company I bought it from is saying it ran good for a week and it was probably caused by poor installation so it is not their problem
Or should I go after my mechanic a little harder because he thinks he had nothing to do with it.
Any help would be great! I am out a lot of money and need to find some solution. Thanks!

That REALLY sucks to hear. Throw me a bit of background
- The mechanic who did the install, was he familiar with installing these types of engines?
- Did the engine seize due to lack of oil? or a mechanical cause?
How did you pay for this engine? If you paid by credit card and you can prove that that your mechanic didn't screw up the install, then sucks on the seller, but I would call your credit card company and tell them that you are disputing the charges as the seller lied about the condition of the engine.
IF you go that far, make sure you have your facts.
Best luck, and keep us posted.
