Default Looking at an A6

Hello from Salt Lake City, I am looking at purchasing a 1998 Audi A6 2.8. The car has 151,000 miles, timing belt, t-stat, water pump were just done. I work at the dealership where the car was traded in. So repairs really dont cost me much. My main concern is how many miles are you guys getting out of your cars?

200K easy to get - 250K dooable - 350K possible - 400K maybe - 450K sometimes - 500K if your lucky -
above that "How much money do you have?"

Wait Wait - Start with how much money do you have? and How much work are you willing to put into the car? Before figuring out how long it will last!

I have unlimited money! No, I don't have much money, that being said I work at an independent dealership and I am in charge of the mechanic that inspects and repairs vehicles before they are sold. We also have a full service department, typically my repairs cost me parts + a case of beer and sometimes a bottle of Jack Daniels if it's extensive. I ended up buying the car for $1500. CEL was on 2 codes: P0118 and P0411. I pulled off the engine cover and found a PCV hose that was split in half, so I put sleeve over it. Hopefully that was the cause of the P0411. I cleared the codes 2 days ago and the P0118 never came back. I plan on doing much of the work myself, or like I said for the above costs. Fortunately I have a pretty good relationship with the parts department at the local Audi/VW dealer, plus I get parts at dealer cost....needless to say I love the car and plan on lurking these forums.

Put the bottle of Jack in one of those side compartments in the trunk. It will keep you company when you break down. (Maybe not, I have 190k on mine and other than clutch, flywheel, and alternator it is basically oem.)
