Default Lumbar fix - not switch

Just a quick DIY post that may help someone down the road:

My lumbar has not worked since I got the car, but I could hear the motors running so I could rule out an electrical problem.

I pulled the seat back off (no fun) and found the up/down cable hanging and the in/out cable end disconnected. Nothing appeared to be broken, except the white clip for the up/down motion was not where it needed to be. To clip it on I had to pull up on the lumbar mechanism (pulling against the springs) so hard, that I should have known something was up. Once there, when I released the mechanism the clip snapped off.

Conclusion: springs are way too strong/short

I detached the springs, installed the cables, fixed the clip back with cable ties and everything looked good. Everything except the springs that is. They were about 2" too short to be of any use. I don't know if this is the original assembly or a wrong replacement unit, but it certainly seemed like I was the first person to get in there.

I added length to the springs by using more cables ties, making their strength just enough to pull the mechanism back to the lower position and not breaking the whole thing.

Now I have a fully functional lumbar support - it really sucked without it! One of the least comfortable seats I have been in until now.

By the way, there is no air bladder in the 2000 model seats.
