Default modding the stock airbox??

I have an 02 A6 3.0 non quattro and have thought of a way to increase cold airflow into the airbox and wanted some comments from this group. I am thinking of fabbing another cold air intake rectangular plenum that would be mounted below and 90 degree to the existing plastic plenum so that it captures more air from the front grill. Then I plan to attach tubing (maybe 1" - 2" ID) through a gap in the radiator brace near the headlight. From there, I would snake it to the airbox, where I would make a hole in it for the new air tube to attach. I also plan to put in a new K&N or similar high-flow filter. I am also considering wrapping the entire stock intake system in some insulation to reduce engine heat absorption.

All thoughts and comments are welcome. Thank you.
