We have a 2002 A6 with a "funny" problem. Certain lights on the radio/aircon console turn off (usually after we go over a speed hump or something similar on the road). See before and after pics below.

Has anyone else encountered this problem? Are these lights on a specific circuit?

Sounds like a bad headlight switch. All the lights that go out are the ones turned on by the headlight switch.

 

so they dim rather than go off completely?? could be a faulty dimmer switch or bad ground

The lights actually go off completely but sometimes (very randomly!) you can "bring them back" with the dimmer switch. All of the other lights work OK so not sure about the bad ground. Also, the headlight switch controls the ones you see in the "after" picture too.

We wanted to have it checked out but were told it could take up to a week (or more) of testing to identify the problem. That's why we thought we would try here first.
