Modified cars - Insurance ????
Hey guys................I've just bought a 2.0 TDI SE, diesel cos I drive around 30 - 40k miles a year on business.
Love the car so far, Its soo big an roomy, however the 140 bhp is not quite enough...........gettin turbo lag especially in 1st gear and I just want / need that little bit more.
Spoke with Audi and they offer an ECU upgrade taking it to 176bhp and 410Nm of torque for £650....seriously interested and probably will go for it sonner rather than later.
Question! Who had modified cars and what insurance companies offer the best deal? Do we as a forum have any tie ins with any insurance companies?
All help greatly appreciated

Not sure about the UK, but over here, he just don't tell the insurance companies, about making the car faster. Your best bet would be to contact a few companies & see what they say.

140bhp to 176bhp are you serious?? if you are you need to inform the insurance company otherwise it will be void and possibly any warranty you have regardless of your insurance

yep I'm deadly serious mate. As posted before I uprated my Saab 93 1.9 Tid Vector Sport from 150bhp to 175bhp, all done thru Saab and warranty was still intact. In fact, I had quite a few problems remedied afterwards, all done under warranty absolutely no problem.
The upgrade I'm talking about is thorough and fully approved by Audi and all warranties will remain fully intact, hence the £650 + vat price.
I could get it done elsewhere for around the £350 - £400, but of course would lose the warranty.
I reckon that 25% increase in bhp to 176 and also a significant increase in torque to 410nm is excellent value for money.
If you think about it you're probably not far off 2.7 TDI's top speed and performance figures for £650???
The Saab at 150bhp was 0-60 in 8.9 secs, after upgrade to 175
0-60 ws around 7.7 secs.
Top speed at 150 bhp was around the 131 mhp, after upgrade to 175bhp.........I took it to 152mph on the clock.
Re the insurance.........I just kept quiet with the Saab but am thinking of doing it legal this time. Any accidents and I'm told that investigators really check this kinda stuff out nowadays [&:]as so many people are adding performance upgrades
Will let you guys know what happens.
