Multitronic Problem...I Think!

Multitronic Problem...I Think!
HI, I have a 2001 A6 2.5 TDI V6 with a Multitronic gearbox. Every now and again (under heavy accelration) in "D" mode it fails to shift up to the next gear (from 2 to 3rd, and from 3rd to 4th). I get a "limp" drive and have to let the revs drop so that the car shifts down. Then it is fine and shifts up again.
Has anyone else encountered this issue. I do not know if this is a fault or expected.

RE: Multitronic Problem...I Think!
If you've truly got a multitronic, isn't it the case that you don't have a 2nd/3rd/4th/etc.? My understanding of multitronic is that it is a continuously variable transmission. As such, you shouldn't be detecting any discrete shifts. If you've got the accelerator down, it should hold the engine to a higher RPM (where you have more horsepower to accelerate/pull up a big hill/etc.). Backing off on the throttle quicklyl will allow the transmission to shift to a gear higher ratio abruptly which could easily be perceived as a "shift."
If you do in fact have a traditional automatic transmission, it's referred to as a Tiptronic.

RESOLVED!!
The issues was finaly resolved after taking the var to Audi for a diagnostic. There is no problem with the gearbox. There is a broken T-piece in the turbo vacumn system which is stopping the engine from receiving the correct singles and hence stopping the gearbox from selected up gear ratios.
Just thouht I would share this in case anyone else has a similar problem.
Cheers
